Dec. 31, 2010 - Pick It Up!

Wed, 15 Dec 2010 - 1:17 PM CST

By Kristen Feola

“He will keep you strong to the end” (1 Corinthians 1:8, NIV).

Perhaps you’re like me, and near the end of the year you may struggle with fearful, anxious thoughts. I can get so wound up in worry when the enemy whispers a boatload of lies in my ears and I believe them.

The last time I struggled with a fear attack, however, the Lord led me to a verse that put an end to all that nonsense. It was the power-packed promise of 1 Corinthians 1:8: “He will keep you strong to the end.” Whenever I return to that verse, immediately the lies are silenced. I take those negative thoughts captive and replace them with the truth. I can accomplish what God is calling me to do. The Lord is with me. He is my Strength.

Anytime we step out in faith, we should expect to encounter resistance from the enemy. We can be assured that Satan will do everything he can to keep us from following through with our commitment to the Lord. If we want to stand firm and not be leveled by our adversary’s silent barrage, we must use the spiritual weapons God gives us. That way, when the attacks come, we’re ready.

The Bible says that God’s Word is the sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17). This powerful weapon cuts through lies and exposes them. It puts to death negative thought patterns and sinful behaviors. However, when we fail to pick up our Bibles each day, we’re unable to fight effectively. Vulnerable and weak, we become easy prey for the enemy.

If you haven’t opened the Word today, now is the time to do it. Pick up the only sword that will give you victory.
